75-year-old Silver Spring Woman Killed in Crash Near Damascus

Runette Parkhouse Clements, of Silver Spring, dies from injuries suffered in an Aug. 17 collision

The circumstances behind a car crash in Etchison that killed a 75-year-old Silver Spring woman last week remain under investigation, a Montgomery County Police spokeswoman said Thursday.

Runette Parkhouse Clements, 75, died at a hospital Saturday from injuries suffered in a collision on Aug. 17, at Damascus and Laytonsville Roads.

Clements was a backseat passenger in a Toyota Corolla that struck a Camry at that intersection. Another passenger was hospitalized for “non-life threatening” injuries, a police spokeswoman told Patch.

Police and emergency rescuers responded to reports of a collision near Damascus at around 9 p.m. The Camry, which was carrying four passengers, stopped at a stop sign and then travelled through the intersection, entering the path the Corolla, traveling east on Damascus Road, police said.

The drivers of the Corolla and the Camry — Robert Kenneth Clements, 53, of Silver Spring, and Guiling Zhao, 44, of Woodstock, MD — were not hospitalized, according to police.

Police have asked that anyone who witnessed the collision contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous.
