Best Brunch Spots, Doughnut Craze, Pink Cupcakes

Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with "1 Meat, 3 Sides." This week, a new restaurant in Bethesda takes center plate:

One Meat:

100 Montaditos, an international restaurant chain, will open in the Bethesda space previously occupied by Green Papaya, Bethesda Magazine reported. Inspired by typical Spanish taverns, 100 Montaditos serves small sandwiches on crunchy rolls with fillings including Serrano ham and tomatoes, grilled chicken and Iberico cheese, and shrimp with guacamole, the magazine added.

Three Sides:

Are doughnuts the next big thing in sweets? Washington City Paper reported last year that many upscale restaurants were starting to offer "gourmet takes on sugary fried dough." Now:

District Doughnut, a 6-month-old doughnut catering business, is looking to change that with its first DC storefront. Co-founders Juan Pablo Segura and Greg Menna say they've been looking at spaces in Dupont and Chinatown and will close on a lease soon. They hope to open next May or June.

Bethesda's Fraiche Cupcakery (10219 Old Georgetown Rd.), launched by Potomac native Nina Deva, has a special cupcake out for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Half of the proceeds from sales of the shop’s pink frosted cupcakes will go to the nonprofit For 3 Sisters, Bethesda Patch reported.
