Fillmore: Rapper Wale Shoots for Grammy in 2012

Nationally known rapper Wale got his start in Washington, D.C.

Wale, a well-known rapper from Washington, D.C., christened the stage to start off the new year at the Fillmore Silver Spring venue Sunday.

During his performance, he said 2011 was a great year for him with accomplishments such as getting signed to Miami-based rapper Rick Ross's label Maybach Music, according to a Washington Post report.

However, Wale proclaimed that 2012 would be better because he will work even harder. Among his goals are:

  • Bring D.C. additional accolades by producing a gold rap album.
  • Create sequel to popular mix tape 100 Miles and Running.
  • Bring more attention to D.C. as a fashion mecca.
  • Win a Grammy award.

FYI, Wale isn't from DC. He was raised there until he was 10 and then moved to Gaithersburg. He graduated from Quince Orchard.

Goodluck, Wale. We all know that DC doesn't get hip-hop love.
