Flower Avenue Welcomes Holiday Market

The market opens November 26 during Small Business Saturday.

Shoppers coming to Silver Spring will have a variety to choose from this season with the inaugural opening of the Flower Avenue Holiday Market.

The space, donated by Gregory Fernebok of The Harvey Companies, is usually a vacant parking lot throughout the year, but will soon be occupied with an array of vendors displaying antiques, art, collectibles, furniture, gifts, jewelry, and treasures of all kinds.

It will also feature a number of local, home-based service providers touting offerings that range from massages to foreign language tutoring.

“We hope to make the holiday market a must-visit Saturday shopping event and a community showcase,” Orion’s Attic co-owner Christopher Lancette said.

Lancette's home-based antique and flea market business is dedicated to making a profit and a difference.

“This is another tremendous opportunity for people to buy good stuff and do great things. The money people spend will go right back into the Long Branch community,” he said.

Lancette and business partner Won-ok Kim are working to fill the market with holiday fun by reaching out to church choirs and performers to entertain the crowd to add to the holiday shopping experience.

They’re also lining up demonstrations from local residents who can teach shoppers everything from how to artfully repair worn-out blue jeans to de-cluttering cramped rooms in their houses.

Lancette is optimistic that the market will grow and encourages local residents to come despite the weather.

“It’s going to be cold but it’s going to be fun,” Lancette said.

Orion’s Attic will donate a percentage of its profits to Montgomery County charities such as House With A Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary.
