Hungry for news on the Silver Spring Transit Center? Be sure to be near a television at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11.
That's the day the Montgomery County Council's Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment (T&E) committee will hold a briefing on the center's progress. The department of general services, which manages construction projects for the county, will provide the update.

The $112 million project that will bring Silver Spring’s Metrorail, MARC, bus lines and taxis together is two years behind schedule. The county’s website said the building is 97 percent complete, but the Washington Post reported in September that county officials are waiting for outside engineers to study the structure’s concrete, which officials have said was improperly poured by construction firm Foulger-Pratt.
Foulger-Pratt denied that it bungled the concrete, telling the Examiner in March that the center meets the Metro and the American Concrete Institute’s specifications.

The delay of this project makes me sick. They were able to build hoover dam in 5 years, and montgomery county cant build a series of ramps and a parking garage. I like to know what politician is making money on this project.

Foulger-Pratt's excuse is that the structure is "closer to a bridge" as far as it's complexity. I don't buy it. All they had to do was pour the concrete properly. All the complexity of the project was already figured out - just follow the damn plans and it's easy as pie!

I cant think of a single govt project that hasnt been a SNAFU. Its pretty clear the political officials and contractors are coming out on top, while the taxpayers are getting snookered.
