Have You Seen the Stolen Jetta Used in Silver Spring Purse Snatching?
Police want help locating the getaway car a robber used over the weekend.
A silver Volkwagen Jetta may be the key to discovering who robbed a woman in downtown Silver Spring over the weekend and Montgomery County Police want to know if you've spotted the getaway car.
The victim told police that a man approached her from behind as she was walking in the 800 block of Bonifant Street Friday night, just before 10:45 p.m. The suspect, of whom police do not have a detailed description, grabbed her purse and demanded that she give it to him, police said.
The robber said he had a weapon, although the victim told police that she didn't see one. She surrendered her purse and said that she saw the man get into a silver Volkswagen Jetta that was waiting for him, police said. The victim said the car drove off. She was not injured in the robbery.
The Jetta's tags were registered in Maryland, 2AE6782, according to police. The vehicle was reported stolen from Hyattsville and detectives said they think the robber is still driving the car in Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
