Silver Spring Builds Youth Advisory Council

Youth leaders will present their ideas to County Executive Isiah Leggett (D), members of the County Council including other community leaders.

The Silver Spring Regional Center's Director Reemberto Rodriguez is looking for students to join the center's Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).

The meeting will be on Wednesday, Feb. 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. inside of the Silver Spring Civic Building located on One Veterans Place.

This committee is one of five set up in regional centers throughout the county.

Youth leaders will present their ideas to County Executive Isiah Leggett (D), members of the County Council including other community leaders.

To date, the YAC in Silver Spring has about three to four students but Rodriguez remains optimistic about the enrollment.

"[There are] a few students that signed already but we are going to grow," he said. "This is a great opportunity to involve the youth who aren’t already involved."

Youth between the ages of 13 to 20 are encouraged to the attend the meeting.

The YAC will meet inside of the Silver Spring Regional Service Center on a monthly basis to discuss service projects, special events including a countywide meeting.

Rodriguez says that any youth member who is a county resident and is interested in joining should come to Wednesday's meeting to learn more about the opportunity.
