Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will draw on the spirit of those who are celebrating the year of the dragon with various events throughout the community.

On Jan. 23, The Huffington Post reported that millions of people in Asia and other ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and Koreans joined in the festivities of the Lunar New Year with fireworks and feasting with family members. The Lunar New Year started with the new moon and will end 15-days later with a full moon.

Here's how you can experience the year of the dragon:

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, author and storyteller, Linda Fang will present “Tales of Ancient China and the Origins of Chinese New Year Traditions.” The storytelling will be hosted on Feb. 11. It starts at 11 a.m.

Marilyn J. Praisner Library, 14910 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville

Pianist Ly-Li Chang will present a “Musical Celebration of the Chinese New Year,” featuring Chinese compositions for piano and voice on Feb. 18 at 3 p.m.

Kuang Chinese School will present traditional Chinese Lion Dance, storytelling and paper cutting demonstrations on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. For additional details, call 240-777-0690.
