National Night Out Set for Aug. 7

Tuesday's celebration will include front porch vigils and traditional display of outdoor lights.

Silver Spring residents will join millions of people around country next week during the annual National Night Out.

The 2012 National Night Out (NNO) observance encourages neighborhood support in participation in crime prevention, including enhancement of police and community relations.

Last year, the campaign had participation from more than 15,000 communities nationwide to include citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, and local officials.

An estimated 37 million people participated in NNO from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases.

We look forward to this event in which we show our support for our community and for the police and say that we do not tolerate crime in our neighborhood.

While everyone is at the event, buglers and car thieves can go about their work with the knowledge that no one is at home.
