It is so heartening to see that there are a few other Conservatives, or at least people with common sense, who are paying attention to what is happening in Maryland, (taxes on everything, climbing, climbing)..... illegal immigrant haven, ......(Article 21)....research it)...and specifically in Montgomery County. Ken Timmerman (R)is running against Van Hollen, U.S. Congress, (District 8) which now encompasses Carroll and Fredrick counties...that's why we have a chance of beating Van Hollen...these people are smart and dowm to earth. Ah, the PROGs are at it again, aggressively attacking everyone who disagrees with their world view and once again straying from the main point: PEPCO whose incompetence created the situation where the County and State would even qualify for a disaster area. So the nanny state of MD calls the Exec Branch to bail them out of the nightmare that they and PEPCO and the PSC created in the first place. Now, taxpayers nationally as well as in the state will be used to foot the bill for the shenanigans.

Most of the people who make the crazy ranting comments don't even live here. I think they literally do a google news search for the word "obama" and then paste their uh, "thoughts" into every comment box they can.

Liberal or conservative, can we all agree how ridiculous it is that the White House took over a month to recognize a disaster in an adjoining state? Seriously, we're almost done cleaning up for it, and he's just now paying attention to this?

Or, there actually WAS no delay. It wasn't a big event that would automatically qualify. And sometimes what you read about a "disaster declaration" is coming from the state itself, not FEMA. Thanks for the additional info.

Can someone point to a summary treatment of how federal disaster funds get passed out? Is it determined by political considerations as is implied by "Obama administration sends X$ to ?? or ???" Or are there clear guidelines for dispensing funds? And is the program too easy like the historic federally backed flood insurance that has helped populate too much of our coastlines with buildings in clearly hazardous locations? Or more like the more recent incarnation of that flood insurance program with more realistic risk assessments included in the costs? I would hope that the federal aid is based on a properly risk based insurance model available to all entities from local governments, to businesses, to individual home owners, for purchase at their discretion. But I don't think that is the case.
