For my Patch volunteer day I worked with A Wider Circle. This non-profit organization started in 2001 helping families build stable homes with furniture and life skills classes. When I arrived with my fellow colleague Jesseka Kadylak from the Kensington Patch we were greeted and taken on a tour by the Assistant Director Anne Thompson.
Making their business feel like home for the 10- 12 families that visit everyday for assistance is a very important part of her day said Thompson. "This is a place that many people come and transition from homelessness, " said Thompson.
After our tour it didn't take long for us to be happily put to work sorting toys, baby clothes, games and lifting furniture to load trucks. It was an enlightening experience about how some of us can take for granted having furniture in our homes.
Furniture is a staple of your home and with the service provide moms finally breathe knowing their family isn't sleeping on floor added Thompson.
This was definitely a great experience and I thank Anne Thompson and the team for inviting me in to volunteer.
The next Patch Give 5 Day is coming up soon so if you would like to get me or any other Patch member on your site send an email to: Tamika@Patch.com.
