The pet store has become a cornerstone in the community for pet owners who need help finding resources for their pets, including tips and tricks to make their pooches behave.

In an email to customers this week, owners Ron and Jessica Simon said they had mixed emotions.

Part of the email read:

It has been our extreme pleasure serving you, your pets, and the Silver Spring community the past four years. Why are we mixed? Well, because while we're sad to say goodbye, we're also excited to announce we're expecting our first (human) child in the Fall, and we feel this is the best decision for our family.

Living Ruff has been instrumental in organizing Dog Days, one of the biggest dog events in downtown, which brought together dog lovers from all over the region. It also became a hub for the Montgomery County Humane Society and prospective pet owners.

The pet store will be closing at the end of July. Throughout the month they will have discounts on their pet merchandise and will be selling their furniture.
