Juried by watercolorist David R. Daniels, this year's "Paint the Town" art show in the Kensington Armory featured over 100 artists from all over Montgomery County and the metro area.

The show has been a Kensington Labor Day weekend tradition since the mid-1980's when Kensington resident and artist Bertha Clum called for an art show besides a parade. She donated the Clum-Kennedy Gardens on Kensington Parkway to the Town of Kensington and they became the site of the first few "Art in the Park" events. Painting outdoors, on-site, also became a Kensington Labor Day weekend tradition.

The Montgomery Art Association "Paint the Town" show features a Kensington award category, which goes out to a work of art depicting Kensington. This year's first place winner in this category is Glen Kessler with "On Consignment," an oil painting of Sage Restaurant storefront. Kessler teaches painting at the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery in Glen Echo, MD.

Debra Halprin, the show's chairperson, is a watercolorist and founder of the Pate Painters. All show participants are members of the Montgomery Art Association. Additional award categories include: landscape; portrait, people and animals; still life; and abstract and 3D.
