Police Charge Briggs Chaney Man with Robbery of Elderly Woman

Woman was knocked to the ground and robbed at Safeway on Outlet Drive.

A 45-year-old Silver Spring man was charged with the assault and robbery of an elderly woman at the Safeway grocery in the Briggs Chaney neighborhood of Silver Spring.

Montgomery County police released surveillance video that showed a man approach the woman on Jan. 15 as she was gathering her groceries near the store's exit. The suspect knocked the woman down and police said he stole cash. The victim had minor injuries that were treated by fire/rescue at the scene, police said.

Ricky Jefferson, of the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard, was charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft under $100 in association with the crime.

Police said plain clothes officers spotted Jefferson as he exited an apartment building in the Briggs Chaney neighborhood. He was arrested without incident, according to police.

?? What, you want the state to murder everyone who steals 50 bucks? Such a shame the USSR broke up - you would have love it there (jk, that's insulting to the USSR to lump them in with crazies like you).
