Reports: 3rd District Police Station 'Looking Real Good'

County official told the Gazette newspaper that the project is moving along on schedule.

A 32,844-square foot, $11.7 million new facility for Montgomery County Police's Silver Spring District is "looking real good," according to David Dise, director of the county's general services department.

The structure broke ground in July, when County Executive Isiah Leggett called the location, at 1002 Milestone Drive in White Oak, strategic. Dise told the Gazette that the roof has been placed and steel support beams have already went up.

“When you look at the greater Silver Spring area today and think about the population that is served, it is an enormous population,” Leggett said. “We believe this location is an ideal location for the department.”

The Silver Spring/3rd District serves the entire Route 29 corridor from downtown Silver Spring to Burtonsville.

Mt. Airy-based contractors Keller Brothers Inc. are expected to complete the project next fall.

The building looks good but those of us who live near the current station are still concerned about losing police coverage!
