Several Car Break-Ins in Silver Spring, One Suspect Arrested

A string of vehicle break-ins were reported in Silver Spring the past two weeks, none appearing to be related, according to a report from Montgomery County Police’s 3rd District.
A 33-year-old man from Washington, DC was arrested and accused of breaking into as many as 15 vehicles in Silver Spring over a two-day period.
Police said they caught the suspect on Sunday, Sept. 30 when patrol officers responded to a possible theft in progress. Police stopped one suspect, but another ran away, police said. The suspects are also accused of taking property from an unmarked Prince George’s County police cruiser.
The streets where the break-ins occurred are: Brisbane Street, Belvedere Boulevard, Imperial Drive, Cody Drive, Biltmore Drive and Woodman Avenue.
Between Monday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 30, 16 more vehicles were broken into, police reported. The thefts occurred in two different parts of Silver Spring and the streets affected were: E.Nolcrest Dr, Schindler Dr, Tenbrook Dr, Portland Pl, Sidney Road, Godwin Drive, Deer Ridge Dr, Musgrove Road, Cherry Hill Road, Blue Valley Drive and Aventurine Way.
Police are also investigating the following crimes:
A 24-hour McDonald’s at 15569 Old Columbia Pike was held up by two armed men on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 2:35 a.m. Two men, detailed descriptions unavailable, went into the restaurant and split up, one holding a gun to a customer and another holding a gun to an employee. The employee was forced to open the safe and the suspects put the cash in a red bag. The employee and the customer were ordered to the floor before the men left.
A 35-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. after patrol officers said he exposed himself to kids and adults at Quality Time Day Care at 8101 Georgia Avenue.
