Silver Spring La Madeleine to Open 'Late March'
French country eatery leased space on Georgia Avenue between Wayne Avenue and Bonifant Street.
Crêpes as authentic as you can get this side of the Atlantic Ocean are on their way to downtown Silver Spring. La Madeleine, a Dallas-based chain of "French country" cafes will open on Georgia Avenue in late March, according to a representative from the company.
The company will open its fifth Maryland location between Wayne Avenue and Bonifant Street on Georgia Avenue. Other restaurants in the state are in Annapolis, Bethesda, Columbia and Rockville.
According to La Madeleine's website, the restaurant serves French-inspired sandwiches, soups, salads, pastas and pastries.
Tell us: Do you eat at other La Madeleine locations in Maryland? Will you stop by the new location?

I love La Madeleine! Been going to the one in Bethesda since it opened in the 90s. I just went to the new one in Tyson's Mall to meet a friend. I was not crazy about the white decor (not a cozy atmosphere) the dark wood decor gives a more authentic coziness. Hopefully the new one in SS will be more traditional. Don't worry, I will still go there to enjoy my favorite dishes. The prices have always stayed reasonable and that is another reason I like to go there.

Peut-être la Madeleine represetative can ask the owner of the building to remove the granite panel directly to the right of the large terra cotta pot (as shown in the photo) to reveal the building's 1927 cornerstone! I imagine this is the first building that this business has occupied that has a cornerstone (though nobody would know due to the INSENSITIVE burrying of it in 1998).

The cornerstone is flush with the original brick of the building, so taking away the granite without replacing it with a clear plexiglas would destabilize the granite, and replacing the cornerstone flush to the granite would destabilize the brick underneath. The cornerstone has been moved before. In 1984 the Masons took the cornerstone out, took out their time capsule (or whatever they had in there and replaced it a few courses higher than the original placement. It would be nice to be able to see it.

Can't wait! I'm not alone in counting the days for this fab restaurant to open here in our own backyard!! Already a fan of the La Mad restaurant chain.

No, they are over priced and do not turn their bakery inventory to maintain freshness. In the Bethesda store I have actually seen custard pasties begin to turn color on the edges and become rubbery. You cannot keep items like that for 24 hours or more. The price of the loss is supposed to be factored in so you can receive the freshest pastries. That said, their tomato soup is out of this world. I do wish downtown did not have to become land of chains like Bethesda, Rockville, etc.

Ho hum, another chain in downtown SS. Why can't there be some originality there or in Takoma Park? I'm talking about a vegetarian restaurant, preferably emphasizing organic ingredients. I've been to some in New York City and they not only offer dishes that are both healthful and scrumptious, but also extremely hard for me to realize they are prepared without meat or fish. For those who prefer the other side of eating, a good New York-style deli would also be welcome.

Vegetarian is boring and not as healthy as most would believe. I am glad La Mad is here. I would like to see 100 Montaditos open up in SS. That would be a welcome addition in Silver Spring, for those who have an appreciation for artesenal cheap eats.

Sorry Jose, but your knowledge of vegetarian food seems to be very narrow. Have you eaten at any of the myriad Indian restaurants in the area which are strictly vegetarian? Their dishes are amazing and quite varied. And here are several gourmet vegetarian restaurants in New York Citywhose offerings are so divine that you would have no idea they are meatless. As for the dishes being "not as healthy as most would believe", I ask you.... compared to what?

Have enjoyed eating at La Madeleine in Rockville for so many years. For me, the prices for their quality food is reasonable. More importantly, the food tastes wonderful and I always leave La Madeleine content.
