Today at SilverDocs: June 21

If you're heading to SilverDocs, here's what you should know.

It’s the second day of SilverDocs! The film festival debuted Monday at the AFI Silver Theatre with "The Swell Season" which documents the journey of  folk-rock musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. They are most known for their hit "Falling Slowly" showcased in the movie "Once" which won an academy award for best original song in 2007. 

Today, the conference kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Center. Attendees can take part in discussions with industry professionals about funding for films, a technical workshop that explores camera technology and more.

Movie screenings: "Shorts Program: Between Us" will be screening films such as Blue Rinse, For Maria, Minka, Still Here, and more at the AFI starting at 11 a.m.

Beat Rhymes & Life: The Travels a Tribe Called Quest is set to be screened at the AFI Silver Theatre tonight at 8:45 p.m. The filmmaker Michael Rapaport documents the influential musical groups throughout hip-hop history. The group released five gold and platinum selling albums within eight years. 

Doc Talk with Kevin Clash the voice of Elmo: Clash, a Baltimore native, will visit the Silverdocs festival to talk about the movie Being Elmo: A Puppeteers Journey. The documentary details Clash’s creativity in creating one of the most beloved children’s characters at the Silver Spring Civic Center at 4 p.m.
