A woman was fatally struck by a car Tuesday night after the vehicle left the parking lot of Orchard Center and hit her while she was walking along the sidewalk of Broadbirch Drive, according to Montgomery County Police.

The collision occurred around 6:15 p.m. and the victim was taken to Crowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she died of her injuries, police said. 

Police said they are investigating why the driver of the car, a 2002 maroon Mitsubishi Montero, drove her vehicle onto the curb, across the grass and eventually along the sidewalk. The driver, also an adult female, was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
