Enjoying Downtown Silver Spring's Farmers Market

I love my Farmers Market!

Every Saturday morning I stroll over to Ellsworth, yes, even when it is freezing cold. During winter, it does not open until 10 a.m.

But there, along the street, are the regulars, Atwaters' and Praline's baked goods, western Maryland goat cheese from Firefly Farms, Gunpowder Bison and Tent which supplies my dogs with bison biscuits, Spiral Path Farm with their organic vegetables and Evensong Farm who supplies one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants, 8407 Kitchen Bar, with its pork.

I have to wait 'til April for my favorite, Groff's Content, to return with their undeniably delicious beef and their interesting dog biscuits. Come April, my Farmers Market will begin again to open at 9 a.m. And as the weather warms up a bit, there will musicians and more people walking with me, up and down Ellsworth, checking out the new vendors, the new items.

With Spring erupting, which is how it sometimes feels, I know my market will have flowers and plants. Ellsworth also welcomes side-shopping as I call it. If I am hungry and it is close to lunch, I can pop into McGinty's Public House for the best fish-and-chips around! Or, I can browse DSW for shoes on sale, always the ones on sale, mind you.

This is my market, my Silver Spring…but you can come on over.  No, I am not associated with the market or Fresh Farm Markets, but it is my neighborhood, my money, my shopping and my food, there on the street sold by locals, or close-to-being-real-locals.
