DOWNTOWN SILVER SPRING INTRODUCES “RE-IMAGINING THE HOLIDAYS”

Environmentally-Friendly Holiday Art Installation Encourages Community Donation of Recycled Plastic Bottles to Share Holiday Destination

SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND (October 19, 2012) – Downtown Silver Spring and the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, in partnership with internationally renowned artist, Julia Vogl, will host the following events surrounding “Re-Imagining the Holidays,” an annual holiday event, on The Fountain Plaza at Downtown Silver Spring. Vogl named the installation, Holiday Destination, and asks members of the community to donate recycled plastic bottles, placing them in receptacles that describe each person’s holiday destination. Bottles will be painted in specific colors based on the destination. For those traveling somewhere hot, red; somewhere cold, blue; somewhere exotic or foreign, green; staying home, yellow; and for those traveling to wherever winter takes them, silver. Holiday Destination will be unveiled on Saturday, November 10th and displayed at The Fountain Plaza throughout the holiday season.
