Silver Spring Stories Film Festival with Docs In Progress

Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place, Silver Spring, MD | Get Directions »
$10.00

Celebrate the local community of emerging documentary filmmakers and the community in which we are based at this special event.  Now in its third year, Docs In Progress' Silver Spring Stories Festival showcases short documentaries produced by first-time filmmakers in our Documentary Production classes for adults and in our Summer Camps for teens.  The subjects of these documentaries are drawn from our local community – Silver Spring and Takoma Park.

Come watch the films and meet the filmmakers and those filmed at this one night community festival.

WHAT’S SCREENING?
This year’s films focus on a variety of topics including the role of art in our community, the use of social media in politics, the immigrant experience, and the importance of activity for our health and well-being.  The films being screened include

Art is Life (about public art in downtown Silver Spring)
A Cup of Love (about Kefa Cafe)
Fun with Time (about local clock artist Randall Cleaver)
Ice Cream Daydream (about Ben & Jerry’s)
The Play Lady (about Pat Rumbaugh, founder of Takoma Plays!)
The Pyramid Atlantic Story (about the arts center)
Shining Stars (about youth gymnastics)
Times Are Changing (about social media and politics)

TICKETS
While this has been a free event in past years, the rising costs of venue rental have given us no choice but to charge a suggested donation of $10 for adults, $5 for kids, or $20 for a family of any size.  We will not turn anyone away if you cannot afford to pay.  However, we hope you will help support this event so that Docs In Progress can continue bringing high quality programming to the area. Click here to RSVP.

Silent Auction
In addition to the screening, we will be holding a Silent Auction at the event of items from community sponsors.  This is a great opportunity to get some holiday presents early, boost local businesses, and know that your dollars will support Docs In Progress in our continued efforts to build community through documentary.  All proceeds will go towards Docs In Progress educational and public programs and are tax-deductible above the value of the auction item.  Items to be auctioned will include dinner out at local restaurants, free yoga classes, tickets to a rock show or theater performance, a spa gift certificate, and, of course, a spot in a Docs In Progress class or summer camp.
