26th ANNUAL SAFEWAY FOUNDATION PRO-AM BENEFITING EASTER SEALS HAS RECORD-SETTING YEAR

The 26th Annual Safeway Foundation Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament benefiting Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA was the highest grossing tournament in the event's history.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD. -- The 26th Annual Safeway Foundation Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament benefiting Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA was the highest grossing tournament in the event’s history. Through generous sponsorships, registration fees, auction and other proceeds, the tournament generated more than $530,000 to strengthen and sustain Easter Seals programs that support children and adults with disabilities and special needs, as well as military, veterans and their families.

The June 10 tournament at Turf Valley Resort was host to more than 30 professional golfers and local celebrities who joined The Safeway Foundation and its partner sponsors in helping support the multitude of services offered by Easter Seals. Despite the challenges presented by the inclement weather throughout the day, nearly 300 golfers braved the rainy day on a soggy course with the common goal of helping Easter Seals meet the community’s most pressing needs.

“It is truly staggering to see how much this event has grown over the years,” said Safeway’s Director of Public Affairs Greg Ten Eyck, who served as co-chair of the event along with Safeway’s Brad Cohen.  “To help raise over half of a million dollars for an organization that  does so much for people with disabilities and special needs makes everyone at Safeway feel good about what we do. The relationship we’ve built with Easter Seals continues to thrive and it becomes stronger every year.”

“Safeway has committed to the people and communities served by Easter Seals for more than three decades,” said Easter Seals President & CEO Lisa Reeves. “The Pro-Am hosted by Safeway has raised millions for Easter Seals services over this period of time that has resulted in happier, healthier and more independent people with disabilities and their families. What impresses me most about Safeway is their authentic culture of giving, community involvement and caring. That’s what leads an organization to such a long-term commitment, and our entire community benefits.”

Golf pros included LPGA champions Pat Bradley and Jan Stephenson.  Other celebrities included former Raven Qadry Ismail, former Redskin Gary Clark and former Bullet Phil Chenier.
