Kay and Dr Kene Enekebe's "Hello" Wedding

The Proposal

The Bride….Kay

This is a case of when the unexpected becomes reality.
It was my birthday night, I was driving home from work, knackered as usual. My friend calls me saying “ babes, my brother saw you on my dp and he will never let me know peace until I give him your contact”. Then she confessed she tried to hook us up twice in the past but we were both forming busy LOL.(this I didn’t know about). I said give him my blackberry pin, but hey, I can’t assure you anything would work out, we laughed over it and then moved on to some other gist.

The next day Kene adds me up and tries to chat me up, as usual I responded the day after, this was unintentional though. After one week, Kene rings me up for the first time, we just spoke for about 2mins he said he just wanted to say Goodnight (am sure he was checking out my voice. LOL). 2days later (insert action movie sound effect) the main love story started. We spoke for about 8 hours, the breaks could have been due to bad network of international dialing, otherwise we had approximately straight 8 hours of our lives together. We talked about everything, we clicked like we had known each other all our lives. That conversation was the start of something special. Then the journey began…..

One month later Kene surprises me with a visit in Nigeria i'm sure at that point he was certain about what he wanted, but in my head I was like Im certainly in love with this guy but I don't know about the American Love :) .. (im sorry baby, LOL). Weeks turned into months, the love grew deeper and deeper, at this point I knew I had to spend the rest of my life with no one but my Boosky. And the story goes on and on.

The Groom………Kene

That first phone call, which began with a simple “hello”, was the beginning of an unexpected journey to finding my better half…

About two years ago, some mutual friends of ours had secretly planned to connect Kay and I, but we were at different points in our lives and that connection never happened.

We however unknowingly crossed paths several times. I knew a thing or two about Kay, that she was a Chemical Engineer, and then I nicknamed her “Engineer”, that she was beautiful, tall, easygoing and before I forget “lekpa”(my spec #in flavors voice#).

Fast forward to Boxing Day, December 26th 2011, I attended a party in Lagos hosted by my sister Iphee. Kay was meant to be at that party(part of the hook-up plans even though I didn’t know), as usual Kay didnt show up. Again, we never met. Come June 2012, on my queen’s birthday, while at work I came across the display picture of my boosky (Kay). I did not recognize her at first, next thing dp(display picture) changes again and captured by her beauty, I asked my sister, “who be the babe for your Dp”?

To my surprise she said, that’s the “Engineer”, the one that you blew off a few months ago because you were too busy with work! I thought to myself, well, she doesn’t know that part of the story so there’s no harm in getting her blackberry pin. My sister was a bit reluctant (because the first 2 times the hook up did not click), but I insisted and even added that “I didn't want to marry her, I just wanted to be her friend … wow see me now LOL”.

got Kay’s phone number and pin fortunately. I chatted her up several times she was always like Hi and Bye, Work calls. In my head I said NO WAY! Out of curiosity one day, I rang her up and disrupted her entire day.
If you ever doubted the magic of first impressions, think again! I had the best first 8 hour conversation with Kay than I have ever had with anyone else in my life. Even though we barely knew each, talking to Kay felt real and unpretentious; she was funny and easy to talk to.

We were so engaged in our conversation that we lost track of time and the only reason I got off the phone was because Kay remembered she had to eat dinner (lol … that’s my boosky).

I started to explore the idea of what ifs? could she be the one?. I decided to make a trip to Nigeria to meet Kay and hopefully have the same connection I felt on the phone. It was a leap of faith and turns out to be the best decision I ever made. A few months later, as we got closer, I was convinced of what I had to do. I called my friend Uyah to help set my plan to propose to Kay in motion. I was certain at this point that if I had to move mountains to make this plan work, I was going to and if I had to jump in front of a train for you, I would… and when I did, my Kay said YES!!!

With those words, she made my whole existence worth being! The world seemed much smaller and everything made more sense knowing I would have Kay by my side always. People say there is nothing like love at first sight, they ought to rethink that, Kay had me at “hello” ……
