Riderwood Lions Club Provides a Helping Hand to Shepherd's Table

SILVER SPRING, MD—For six years, the Riderwood Lions Club has spearheaded a drive to support Silver Spring-based Shepherd’s Table.

“The motto of our club is ‘we serve,’” noted Ken Kennedy, its Projects Coordinator and a resident of the Erickson Living retirement community.  “We strive to serve those in need in the surrounding area and worldwide.  For this project, we ask for donations for the homeless, and in a small way, we help them to find comfort and recognition of being.”

The mission of Shepherd’s Table is to provide assistance to people who are homeless or in need by providing basic services, including meals, social services, medical support, clothing and other assistance in an effective and compassionate manner.

All told, the Riderwood Lions Club collected one hundred (100) bags and three boxes of toiletries and clothing items such as knit caps, sweaters, shoes, socks and jackets from resident and employee donations.  The drive occurred September 23rd-October 3rd.

Jacki Coyle is the Executive Director of Shepherd’s Table.  “We are so grateful to the extraordinary residents and staff of Riderwood for their generosity this year,” stated Ms. Coyle.  “The donations will be used to help women and men in the community who do not have a home to call their own.  These gifts not only provided the basics like clothing, shoes and toiletries, but also a huge gift of love.”

On October 4th, the items were delivered to the Shepherds Table headquarters.

“This year, we would like to extend a special thanks to the tireless efforts of Reggie Denis, Senior Facilities Manager at Riderwood, and his team for their daily support,” described Mr. Kennedy.  “They collected, stored, bagged and transported the donations to Shepherd’s Table.  Our project would not have been successful without their support.”

Shepherd’s Table is a nonprofit organization, supported by volunteers, religious organizations, government, businesses, foundations and individual donors.  For more information, please visit www.shepherdstable.org.
