The Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC) will work with Chesapeake Education, Arts, and Research Society (CHEARS) and the City of Greenbelt Department of Public Works to recruit and coordinate volunteers, and support environmental stewardship projects and programming such as the Three Sisters Demonstration Gardens, Greenbelt Food Forest, permaculture workshops, Forest Stewardship Volunteer Program, and more.  Various joint events include Earth Day and Arbor Day.

This is an 11 month, full time paid position as a member of the Volunteer Maryland (VM) AmeriCorps program, beginning on September 25, 2013 and concluding on August 12, 2014 for a total 1,700 hours of service during the term (40 hours/week).  Full-time VMCs receive a living stipend, an education award, and health insurance if they are not already covered.

Why become a VMC

Volunteer Maryland builds stronger, healthier communities by empowering all Marylanders to take action. Each year, we place AmeriCorps members in nonprofit organizations,

schools, and government agencies throughout the State to serve as Volunteer Maryland Coordinators, bridging the gap between communities facing critical problems and citizens who want to volunteer to solve those problems.  Since 1992, Volunteer Maryland has mobilized nearly 102,000 community volunteers. Volunteer Maryland is an AmeriCorps program of the Maryland Governor's Office.

Benefits include:

  • full time, paid volunteer service hours
  • professional training in program development, volunteer management, marketing, communication, and leadership skills
  • valuable networking opportunities
  • student loan deferment
  • working with a dedicated team of AmeriCorps members and staff
  • impacting change and growth toward community sustainability
