Good morning, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know this Friday to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Expect showers and possibly thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service(NWS). Temperatures may rise to the high 50s.

Tonight: The skies may be partly cloudy, with temperatures in the mid 30s.

The weather may take a turn for the best this weekend with temperatures in the high 40s and mid 50s, according to NWS. The evenings may be cooler with temperatures dropping to the low 30s.

2. If you missed it, in our recent local voices column "Mutts Matter" Hank the Tank, an American Staffordshire Terrier, is available for adoption.

3. Fitness and nutrition top the list for Clifton Park Baptist Church located at 8818 Piney Branch Rd. in Silver Spring. They are inviting women of all ages to take a break from their normal Friday routine to take part in fellowship, fitness, food and fun. It starts at 7 p.m.

4. County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) is looking for applicants to fill four vacancies on the Department of Permitting Services Advisory Committee. The deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 to submit your application.

5. Coming up in Silver Spring Patch, Lunar New Year festivities you can participate in with the community. Come back at 12 p.m.
