Nonprofits in Need May Apply for Use of Silver Spring's Veterans' Plaza

A $200,000 grant program will help organizations that can't afford to rent space in downtown Silver Spring.

Nearly a quarter-million dollars was set aside this fiscal year to help nonprofits utilize the Silver Spring Civic Building as a part of a pilot grant program, the Gazette reports.

The Community Access Pilot Program will dispense $200,000 in grant money to nonprofits who demonstrate a financial need and a commitment to the county's mission. The money will go to help them rent out space in Veterans Plaza, the paper wrote.

According to a county official, the program, which began accepting applications online Tuesday, has already garnered interest among nonprofits.
