Portion of Metropolitan Branch Trail Opened

Montgomery County announces the trail in Silver Spring is open from the south end of the MARC train platform to the transit plaza in front of the Metro Station.

A portion of a walking and biking trail adjacent to the Silver Spring Transit Center opened Thursday, Montgomery County officials announced today. The Metropolitan Branch Trail allows pedestrians to connect to the northbound MARC platform again, according to the county.

On Thursday, a part of the trail that extends from the south end of the MARC platform to the transit plaza in front of the Metrorail station opened. The trail will extend to Ripley Street next month, if weather permits, the county said in an announcement.

The Metropolitan Branch Trail is an 8-mile trail that runs from Silver Spring to Union Station in the District. Completion of the trail in Silver Spring was one of several recommendations given by local bike advocacy groups to prepare Montgomery County for a bikeshare program.
