Reports: Nearly 1,000 Turn Out to Health Fair in Silver Spring

Sixth annual fair provides free screenings and information on health insurance for county residents.

Hundreds of residents went to downtown Silver Spring's Veterans Plaza last Saturday for free health screenings and services at the Health and Wellness Fair, the Gazette reports.

In its sixth year, the fair is organized by DB Consulting Group, Lux Consulting Group, the county Department of Health and Human Services and the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce.

This year, mental health and substance abuse vendors were added to the event.

“The best way to reduce the cost of health care is to reduce the number of people who get sick,” said Councilmember George Leventhal (D-At Large). “The best ways to achieve that are for all of us to stay active and get checked regularly to detect early signs of possible problems. This fair will present an opportunity to do both. And it is all in one place—and all free.”
