WATCH: Northwest Branch Spillway Fills at Route 29 in Silver Spring

Hours before Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, waterways in Montgomery County began to fill.

Officials are expecting Potomac River to flood as a result of Hurricane Sandy, a powerful storm expected to pummel Maryland starting Monday evening. We're keeping an eye for flooding around the region, as well. 

Watch this video of the spillway at Route 29 and Northwest Branch, a tributary of the Anacostia River, filling with water as rain fell in Silver Spring, shot Monday afternoon by a Silver Spring Patch reader.

Parts of Route 29 were temperarily closed Monday due to flooding, according to Twitter updates from Montgomery County Police.
