Silver Spring has many events if you're looking for something fun to participate in with the family.
If you're one of the many residents who stayed close to home this weekend, not choosing to brave the Northeast travel delays or effects of Tropical Storm Earl, there are still a number of things to do in and around the city. Here are some ideas:

The weekend at the Round House Theater travel to the tough streets of Pittsburgh in the Washington-area premiere of Cherry Smoke . The gripping story of a boxer fighting his way out of poverty against all odds, makes for an interesting theater experience close to home.
Labor Day Parade and Festival
Spend the weekend in Kensington getting lost in art by local artists from watercolor to sculpture, and meet the artists themselves. Come back for the Labor Day Parade on Monday.
Brookside Gardens
Become one with nature at Brookside Gardens. Check out what plants are edible and visit the always-popular butterfly garden, along with other activities. This 50-acre public display garden has an Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden,Children's Garden and much more. If you love to read you can visit there horticultural reference library in the Visitors Center. Admission is free.

Feeling a bit nostalgic for the 80s? Head over to AFI Silver Theatre and check out classics from this decade, as they round out the final week for Totally Awesome 4: More Films of the 1980s. If you want to head further back in time, watch the Charlie Chaplin series of films.
