5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 9, 2012

Good morning, Silver Spring! Here are five things to know this Monday to help you keep up-to-date about what’s going on in the community:

1. Prepare for scattered showers and flurries this morning before 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. The sky should be cloudy throughout the day with a high near 40 degrees. Later on tonight, flurries may be in the forecast with a slight chance of rain before 9 p.m. Temperatures may drop to the 30s.

2. The Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board meets tonight inside of the civic building located on One Veterans Place. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. inside of the Silver Spring Civic Center located at One Veterans Place (across from the Majestic movie theater).

4. . Although Officer E. Paden was off duty, he rushed to the scene of the Discovery Hostage situation. His quick thinking gained him access to the building and intel for his team.

5. Residential burglaries and thefts from vehicles were mostly reported in the Silver Spring area in the latest crime summary.
