Baritone Paul Forbes to Perform March 10 Concert at Riderwood; Event is Free to Public

SILVER SPRING, MD -- Baritone singer Paul Forbes will present a concert of popular songs and Broadway tunes March 10, at 7 p.m.,  in the Lakeside Commons Encore Theater at Riderwood, 3140 Gracefield Road, Silver  Spring.  He will be accompanied by pianist Elizabeth White. This concert is free to the public on a first come, first served basis . To RSVP please email: Mel.Tansill@Erickson.com

Forbes’  rich baritone wasn't recognized until he was in his late 60s, when a voice teacher told him he had a beautiful voice. He became a popular performer in Northern Virginia, where he used to live. His accompanist, Riderwood resident Elizabeth White, who regularly plays popular music, is a graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston. She has appeared with the Boston Pops and the Prince George’s County Philharmonic orchestras, and has given recitals in the United States and abroad.

Last October, Forbes produced and sang in “Songs of the Mid-20th Century,” co-starring nightclub chanteuse Karen Oxorn (daughter of Riderwood residents Pearl and Leonard Mades) and featuring the Bay Jazz Project. His energetic rendition of “If I Were a Rich Man,” from “Fiddler on the Roof,” was a big hit.

“Ever since then, people have been asking when I was going to give another concert,” said Forbes, who now lives at Riderwood. “I finally decided to schedule one for March 10 since my daughter Amy, who lives in Oregon, didn't see the last show and is coming for my birthday in March.”

An amateur archaeologist, Forbes will also speak on “Digging Up the Exodus: What Archaeology Tells Us About the Origins of the Israelites,” on March 13, at 3:00 pm., at Riderwood.  This lecture, which is sponsored by the Riderwood Jewish Community, will take place in Montgomery Station’s Performance Hall.
