'Farragut North' Explores Politics and Morality on Silver Spring Stage

The local theater is mounting a play loosely based on Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign.

The real-life political stage can be plenty dramatic, even for the most seasoned of Beltway insiders. Silver Spring Stage is offering up a campaign thriller with all the scandal and intrigue you'd expect from an actual presidential campaign, the Gazette reports.

Farragut North is loosely based on Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign and stars an actual former political staffer, the newspaper reports. The play, written by Beau Williams, a former staffer of Howard Dean and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, also served as the inspiration for The Ides of March, a film starring George Clooney and Ryan Gosling.

Director Bridget Muehlberger thinks that the political play will resonate well with Silver Spring audiences:

“I kind of note [the election] as our World Series; this is our Super Bowl coming up. We’re the ones that stay up late into the morning to see what state puts their delegate where.”

The Associated Press writes that, "You will find yourself drawn into supremely entertaining dissection of the machinations behind getting elected."

Farragut North runs until Oct. 6. Buy tickets online here. Silver Spring Stage is located at 10145 Colesville Road.
