The Fillmore's $1,900 to $3,000 base rental fee may be too expensive for community groups, according to one nonprofit leader and an elected official, quoted in the The Gazette.
Of the 36 community events the Silver Spring entertainment venue is supposed to host each year, only one has occurred, the newspaper wrote.
Councilmember Marc Elrich (D-At Large) said the rates are "obscenely high."
The community clause of The Fillmore's lease came after the state and county funneled $11.2 million into the building renovation, the Washington Post reported.
The Gazette reports County Executive Isiah Leggett said that his office is still working through "challenges" groups have encountered in renting the space.
