1. THE JAZZ STIMULUS PROJECT ON THE PLAZA

Where/When: Enjoy jazz on Veterans Plaza (near the Majestic Theater) in downtown Silver Spring on Thursday, June, 30 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Why go: The concert will include musical creations by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Charlie "Bird" Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and many more.

2. FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL ON THE NATIONAL MALL

Where/When: Join the festival in Washington, D.C. on Monday, July, 4 all day.

Why go: The booths feature cultural recognition from Colombia, the Peace Corps and more for their 45th anniversary! 

Pricing: The event is free and open to all. 

3. FIREWORKS AT MONTGOMERY COLLEGE 

Where/When: Montgomery College Rockville campus located at 851 Mannakee Street Rockville, 20851 on Monday, July 4 from 7 p.m to 10 p.m..

Why go: Enjoy good times with the family while remembering a major day is history!

4. FENWICK BEER AND WINE TASTING 

Where/When: The beer and wine store is located on 1327 Fenwick Lane and the tasting is on Friday, July 1 from 4:30 p.m.  to 7:30 p.m. 

Why go: Choose from four wines this week and learn more about the complexity to making it. They are featuring Malbec (Crios of Malbec 2009 and Yellow+Blue Malbec 2009) and Sangiovese (Yalumba Sangiovese Rose 2009 and Lucignano Chianti 2008).

5. FOURTH OF JULY PARADE IN TAKOMA PARK

Where/When: The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. from Carroll Ave & Ethan Allen Ave in Takoma Park on Monday, July 4.

Why Go: Start the day off with a parade through Takoma Park. Enjoy a community BBQ and wiffleball tournament. Conclude the evening with fireworks at Takoma Park Middle School.
