2. CHEESE CARVER CREATES HOLIDAY CHEER IN CHEESE

Where/When: Safeway located at 5034 Bradley Blvd. in Bethesda on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: To attend the grand opening to watch a holiday mammoth cheese carving with Sarah Kaufmann, “The Cheese Lady.” She will use a 75-pound Wisconsin Cheddar as canvas to honor the traditions.

3. SANTA COMING TO TOWN

Where/When: Downtown Silver Spring located near the Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive.

Why Go: You can enjoy a tree lighting, hot cocoa wars, caroling, DIY holiday crafts and free photos with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

4. CHRISTMAS REVELS 2011

Where/When: Lisner Auditorium located between 21st  and H Streets in Washington, DC on Dec. 3 and 4.

Why Go: Join the Washington Revels as they travel back in time more than 1,000 years to Andalusia, Spain on the eve of the winter solstice.

Pricing: $18 to $45 adults and $12 to $27 for youth

5. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

Where/When: Grace Episcopal Church located at 1607 Grace Church Rd. in Silver Spring on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m.

Why Go: They will raffle an iPad, sell fair trade handcrafts from around the world, jewelry, ornaments and much more.
