The energizing vibes of jazz music will once again emanate from the heart of downtown Silver Spring as the eighth annual Silver Spring Jazz festival kicks off On Saturday, September 10, at 3:30 p.m.
Since 2004, Silver Spring has been home to one of the area’s best-attended jazz festivals and with another solid lineup, this year looks to be no different. Last year’s headliner--Aaron Neville and his Quintet featuring Charles Neville--treated locals to a dizzying blend of New Orleans-style funk-jazz and ballads featuring Aaron’s impressive voice.
Silver Spring’s own Marcus Johnson, who played last year’s , will headline the 2011 event, and is likely to blend his own original compositions with interpretations of rock songs featured on his album This is How I Rock.
Other scheduled acts include Project Natale - a traditional jazz group created by brothers Joe and Lou Natale, vocalist Sheila Ross, and La Leyenda who blend classic Latin and Afro-Cuban music styles into old-school dance rhythms.
The free event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Veteran’s Plaza, and taking public transportation is recommended, as parking will be limited.
