Council Member Valerie Ervin Promotes Small Business Week

The official week recognizing small businesses is May 20-26.

Montgomery County Council Member Valerie Ervin (D-District 5), who strongly advocates for small businesses, is set to visit local business owners during National Small Business Week.

On May 15, the county council proclaimed May 20 to 26 as Small Business Week, to encourage residents to patronize local stores.

“Since 1962 the National Small Business Administration has been recognizing the special impact made by outstanding American entrepreneurs and small business owners with Small Business Appreciation Week,” Ervin said.

“I encourage everyone to patronize local small businesses in their community because these businesses are part of the fabric of our community and have a significant impact on our local economy.”

In an effort to bring the stories and faces together, the Montgomery County Council honored three Silver Spring businesses, including Jenny Kim of Number One Cleaners, Julia Miller and Shanda Waters of BlowOuts Salon and Jason Miskiri of The Society Lounge.

“Every small business has a story behind it, and although every story is a bit different, almost all share common threads,” Ervin said. “Each successful small business has a dream... and a driving force determined to make that dream come true.”
