Make a $10 donation to Hospice Caring Inc. at Rio Washingtonian Center on Aug. 2 and a percentage of your receipts at participating restaurants and shops will be donated to the Gaithersburg nonprofit.

When you make the donation, you will receive vouchers to present with your purchases and a passport that automatically enters you in a drawing to win a gift certificate to Charming Charlie, Lilly Magillys Cup Cakery, Barnes & Noble and Finewine.

Charming Charlie fashion jewelry and accessory store is offering a 20 percent discount to passport shoppers between 3 and 5 p.m. that day.

Nonprofit Hospice Caring offers practical and emotional support free of charge to terminally ill adults and children and their families and to those grieving the death of loved ones. Executive Director Jeannette Mendonca of Damascus is excited about this new fundraising opportunity.

"We wanted to try a unique event that was fun,” Mendonca said. “This is a wonderful new event for Hospice Caring. Funds raised will help us to continue providing our program services without charge.”

Participating stores and restaurants are Barnes & Noble, California Pizza Kitchen, Charming Charlie, Chico’s, Finewine, Joe’s Crab Shack and Lilly Magilly’s Cup Cakery. Check each store for participation hours.

“We appreciate the kindness and support of the shops, restaurants and the team at Peterson Companies for the Washingtonian Center -- come join us,” Mendonca said.

Passports must be purchased by 3 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Hospice Caring table at the center or buy a passport in advance by sending a check or money order to Hospice Caring Inc., at 518 S. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg MD 20877. Only 250 passports will be available.
