Foodie News Near Silver Spring: Iconic Sandwich Shop Shutters, Shepherd's Table Serves Brunch

One meat:

Gaithersburg's Roy's Place has shuttered its doors for good, Gaithersburg Patch reported. 

In December, Patch reported that Roy’s Place—once home to a dizzying array of more than 200 sandwiches—was seeing its business “dying off a little bit” and would cut its hours.

"Roy’s was obviously one of Olde Towne’s signature establishments," Gaithersburg Economic Development Director Tom Lonergan said. "While understanding that few things last forever, it’s always sad when a place like Roy’s closes its doors for good."

Three sides:

Long before she earned rave reviews, the woman who is the heart and soul of Wheaton's Ruan Thai knew people liked her food. After all, Krisana Suchotinunt grew up cooking in her native land.

"I learned from my grandma. When I was young, I cooked all the time with my grandma," said Suchotinunt, the owner of Ruan Thai.

Bethesda Patch reported that The Prime Choice Caterers will serve concessions at the Home Run Cafe at Cabin John Regional Park's Shirley Povich Field—the Big Train's home base—this season, and that the Ballroom Cafe at Glen Echo Park will be run, for the second year in a row, by Bethesda-based chainlet The Brown Bag.

The Brown Bag took over as concessions operator last April after a push to shift control for food vending at the park from the National Park Service to Montgomery County, Bethesda Patch reported.

Le Pain Quotidien will take over the former Tynan Coffee and Tea spot in Friendship Heights, Chevy Chase Patch reported.

With the help of a grant, Silver Spring nonprofit Shepherd's Table, which has provided meals to people in need for 29 years, recently began The Thierry Musel Brunch Program, serving brunch each Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 to 11:10 a.m. Read more on Silver Spring Patch.
