Halloween Adventure Opens in Former Borders Location

Silver Spring residents looking for a costume this year have an additional store to choose from this spooky holiday.

The phone rings off the hook in Silver Spring’s newest costume shop—Halloween Adventure—which carries a wide variety of themes that are in high demand this season.

In the entrance a friendly ghost greets customers, and a zombie awaits them on the other side of the door and escorts them back in time to classic movies such as Night of the Living Dead.

The store carries an assortment of Halloween costumes from Disney movies, Flavor Flav from Flavor of Love, Elvis Presley, Superman, and Marilyn Monroe. In its decorations section, the store carries skeletons, bloody fingers, vampire teeth, eyeballs, including spider webs.

The costume shop took over the space once occupied by Borders.

However, a second request for bankruptcy in July sealed the location’s fate, and it was slated to close on Sept. 12 along with 398 stores around the country.

Halloween Trends

Sexy is the new trend this year, said Store Manager Dwayne Kowlessar.

“Adult sexy women costumes [are popular] and outside of that would be the children’s section that carries all of the Disney characters, ” Kowlessar said.

The company will likely take over the new space permanently, but will only sell Halloween costumes up through the second week of November and then switch over to toys, he added.

Halloween Adventure's Hours: Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 301-587-2745.
