Mrs. K’s Toll House Brunch Voted Local Favorite

The restaurant serves an average of 300 to 400 guests every Sunday.

Every weekend local residents in Silver Spring (and nearby) can depend on dining at Mrs K’s Toll House on Sunday for brunch. When you walk in the restaurant, the smells make your taste buds salivate with dishes including beef brisket, grits, baked salmon with dill, roasted turkey, baked ham, omelets, a raw bar, and homemade bread pudding.

The historic restaurant—located at 9201 Colesville Rd.—took home the majority of the votes Wednesday in a poll. Out of 15 votes, the restaurant received six.

Spiro Gioldasis, the general manager for Mrs K’s Toll House, says it’s no surprise to him that his restaurant was voted number one.

“We have been the best brunch for the past 12 years [in this area]. It’s very good,” he said.

Gioldasis says there is a huge effort that goes into making the various dishes every Sunday. Much of the preparation work is done Saturday night, but when his head chef comes in the following day at 7:30 a.m. everything is made from scratch. It takes the head chef and his team about three hours to complete the meal for the first wave of guests.

Gioldasis says his favorite on the menu is an omelet with crabmeat, spinach, onions, bacons, tomatoes and cheese.

On an average Sunday they serve about 300 to 400 guests.

During special holidays like the upcoming Mother’s Day, the restaurant offers dinner all day from a fixed menu. The restaurant is almost booked for this Sunday, May 13 with 740 people already with reservations. Dinner costs $60 a person.

Here is a sneak peak of what guests can expect at this year’s dinner.
