The Traffic Group Completes Two Short-Term Pedestrian Counting Projects in Silver Spring

Both projects yielded significant results and were commissioned by Petrie Ross Ventures, a premier developer of retail centers and mixed-use properties in the Mid-Atlantic.

The first project targeted the southeast quadrant of US 29/Colesville Road and Fenton Street while the second focused on the southwest corner of Ellsworth Avenue and Fenton Street. The purpose was to gain an understanding of the number of people passing by the location either on foot or bicycle. These details have been incorporated into sales materials for the brokers responsible for leasing the space.

This non-intrusive service utilizes the latest infrared technology to detect people on foot – as well as cyclists - distinguishing them from motorized vehicles. With a 10-year battery life, the technology can detect pedestrians and cyclists as far away as 45 feet.

The technology also can record data in a specific direction, pick up fast moving objects, and can be operated with a wireless phone modem. The technology ignores motorized traffic.
