Green Living Showcase: Make Silver Spring Greener this Saturday 10/20!

The Green Living Showcase is this Saturday at Fenton Street Market, and includes local green businesses, music, demonstrations, and more! Come learn about making Silver Spring a greener community.

Come to downtown Silver Spring this Saturday, October 20, 10 AM - 4 PM for Silver Spring Green’s first Green Living Showcase!  Learn how to live a more sustainable lifestyle and connect with local businesses that have made a commitment to green business practices.

The Showcase, at Fenton Street Market, will feature over 30 local green businesses and organizations, with a wide range of products, services, and programs.  The Showcase will include everything from solar lawnmowers, to organic home and pet supplies, to energy conservation and wind power, to gifts and art from recycled material – and more.  There’s something for everyone, including some special art projects for kids, so bring the whole family.

We’ll also have some great music.  Be sure to catch popular local musicians (and environmentalists) Kathy Westra and George Stephens, who will be singing and playing nature-inspired folk songs for two sets, at 10:00 and noon.  They’ve played at the Washington and New England Folk Festivals as well as many other venues, so don't miss them here!  And take time to talk with Kathy afterwards about her environmental communications business as well.

And if you want to sit and learn, we’ll have demonstrations all day long – for example, you can learn about composting, edible gardening for fall and winter, re-purposing your “stuff”, and more!  And you’ll be able to take an up-close look at one of the new electric cars we’ll have.

The Green Living Showcase is co-sponsored by Fenton Street Market and Silver Spring Green.  Silver Spring Green is a growing organization which hopes to encourage residents and businesses in Silver Spring to work together to make more sustainable choices individually and as a community.  We also hope to highlight how these greener choices can save money, open up business opportunities, and result in a more livable community.  We’re a friendly bunch – so please stop by our table at the Green Living Showcase to learn more and join us!
