5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 25

Happy Thursday, Silver Spring! Here are five things you need to know today as our community schools prepare to open for the new academic year.

Good Morning! It’s clearly back to school season by the look of today’s events. Here are five things you need to know to stay up-to-date about what’s going on in the community this Thursday:

  1. Today will be sunny with a high of 89 degrees, but there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The evening will be mostly cloudy with a low of 70 degrees.
  2. is hosting today from 7:25 p.m. to 11:10 a.m. Incoming ninth graders can spend the morning getting to know their new school, teachers and fellow freshmen and, at 8 a.m., there will be a breakfast for parents of freshmen. Contact the school for more information at 301-649-8088.
  3. is also hosting  from 7:25 p.m. to 11:10 a.m. Incoming ninth grade students at Blair will learn about taking the bus to school, meet their new teachers and see their new classrooms. For more information, contact the school at 301-649-2800.
  4. is holding from 7:55 p.m. to 11:40 a.m. for students to meet their new teachers and see their new classrooms. The school is also hosting from 8 a.m to 9 a.m. in the media center for parents of new students to meet staff and other parents, have coffee or tea with the principal and go on a tour of the school.   5. presents from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parents of kindergarten students at Woodlin are invited to meet the staff, see the school and get to know other kindergarten parents.  For more information call 301-650-6440.
