Happy Monday, Silver Spring! Here are five things you need to know to kick off your week.

Good Morning! What five things do you need to know to stay up-to-date about what’s going on in the community? Patch has you covered this Monday:

  1. Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The evening will be clear and 20 degrees cooler.
  2. It’s the first day of school for all Montgomery County Public Schools students, but this morning is when you will find out what schools will be open due to power outages from Hurricane Irene. Check Montgomery County's website for more details.
  3. If you’re still looking for a school for their child, has and is encouraging parents to fill out applications and stop by for a tour. For more information call 301-585-6873.
  4. Do you have storm damage to your home? Well, how will you report it. "Whether your insurance will pay for repairs all depends on your coverage. Many homeowner policies even pay for tree removal from yards. But most do not cover the damages from flooding."
  5. The award winning  is being offered at at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Senior Fit is a free 45-minute exercise class for people 55 and older and is a partnership of Holy Cross Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Montgomery County Department of Recreation and Springvale Terrace.
