5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 9

Good Morning! What five things do you need to know to stay up-to-date about what’s going on in the community? Patch has you covered this Tuesday:

1. Today’s high is 91 degrees, but the sky will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. There is a 60 percent chance of rain in the evening with a low of 72 degrees.

2. Join staff from the National Museum of Health and Medicine as they share their experiences in caring for several unique and interesting objects such as photos, documents and anatomical specimens. This is a free event at the Silver Spring Civic Center from 6-7 p.m.

3. The Silver Spring chapter of BNI, a business networking organization, is hosting  at Eggspectation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be a great event for anyone looking to share ideas with other business owners, network professionally, and find business referrals. You don’t need to be a member of the organization—the event is open to all.

4. Getting ready for back to school? , a private school for students from kindergarten to the eighth grade, is holding for parents to stop by for a tour and fill out an application from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The school's curriculum follows the standards of the Archdiocese of Washington with the goal of helping students develop intellectually, socially, spiritually and physically. 5. Tuesday is family night! Take the kids out for a free meal at Jackie's restaurant located at 8081 Georgia Avenue (avoid traffic and enter on Sligo Avenue). Children under 10 years of age eat free. Call for additional details at 301-565-9700.
