5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 29

Good morning Silver Spring, and happy Friday! Here are five things you need to know to help you get one step closer to the weekend.

1. According to the National Weather Service, you can expect a high of 98 degrees with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. The evening will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the mid-70s.

2. Want to know how to save water and save money? Held at 12245 Tech Road, the seminar will be conductd in English and Spanish.

3. Happy 53rd Birthday, NASA! On this day in 1958, the U.S. Congress passed legislation that created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. If you want to celebrate, take a trip down to the Mall and visit the National Air and Space Museum, where you can learn more about NASA's history. Currently on exhibit is a look at the NASA art program.

4. Make a healthy start to your weekend by planning to visit the FRESHFARM Market Saturday morning on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Ellsworth Drive in downtown. This week, Quaker Valley Farm and Orchards will bring their Sun Jewel Asian melons and baby yellow watermelons, and there will be new varieties of plums from Spring Valley. Food stamps, WIC and Seniors Farmers Market Coupons are accepted.

5. Don’t forget about the this weekend. On the corner of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive, this weekly cultural exchange is a great way to purchase unique art from local artists. Parking is free in the downtown lots.
